"Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young— even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God." -Psalm 84:3
When I was a little girl, I would spend lazy summer afternoons with my grandmother watching the birds come to the feeders behind her house. She had a big book of aviary pictures, descriptions, and calls and I would spend hours studying the delicate little creatures that frequented her backyard. What particularly fascinated me was watching them build their homes. I observed that the birds would fly countless trips scavenging for the perfect twig to complete their nests, obliviously content in their surroundings and the simple pleasure of building.
When we look at Psalm 84:3, we see that the sparrow's home is the altar of the Lord, and in that place she lays her young. Are our homes also altars which point our children to worship or are they idols of our own creation? Do we make that daily choice to lay down that part of us, the selfish, sinful man inside, to sacrifice self and be Christ to those we are called to minister to and with?
How is your heart tonight? How do you prepare your altar for worship?

I enjoyed reading of your memories with your grandmother. Grandmothers are so precious! This is a very thought provoking post. I have a picture that says I Die Daily, but honestly, that's easier said than done sometimes.
Beautiful post, Kelli. Our homes are to be alters to our Lord. I had my sweet grandbaby, Kayleigh visiting with us here this weekend. Her momma and daddy do not attend church at this time. I had many opportunities to tell her more about Jesus while she was with us and am praying that our son and his family are soon back to going to church with their children. I loved reading about your childhood observation of God's beautiful birds. He truly has blessed us with a wonderful world! God bless and hope you have a sweet week!
This is a good post and a great reminder of how important it is to create the right atmosphere in our homes especially for our children since this is the first place where they observe and learn.
